CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - A 22 year old Massena man has taken a plea deal after being accused of raping a 10 year old girl.

Sawyer White of 41 Somerset Avenue pleaded guilty in St. Lawrence County Court Tuesday to first-degree attempted rape.

Had he not taken a plea deal, White could have gone to prison for life.

Instead, he faces 7 years behind bars and 15 years post-release supervision when he's sentenced November 15.

A grand jury originally indicted him on the following counts:

- 3 counts of first-degree rape

- 3 counts predatory sexual assault

- 3 counts endangering the welfare of a child

In October 2018, White was accused of raping a 10 year old girl.

According to the Massena Police Department, White and the girl knew each other and the rapes took place in White's home during two months in 2018. An investigation was launched after police received a complaint on August 21, 2018.

Police also said the victim was sexually assaulted in the presence of a 12 year old.
