WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - A north country woman who donated one of her kidneys to a stranger doubled down on her good deed Sunday.
Tanae Triplett, joined by about 30 other people, walked Watertown’s Thompson Park to raise money to combat kidney disease, and to raise awareness about organ donation.
In July, Tanae donated one of her kidneys to a stranger, Michelle Borrego, a friend of her mother.
“It’s her that gave me the strength to do this. It’s all because of her, not because of me,” Tanae said Sunday.
She was expecting about 10 people to show up, but as word spread of her kidney donation, the number swelled. Many of the people were from her husband’s unit at Fort Drum, the 215th Field Artillery, Bravo Battery.
“Today is a culmination of a young woman’s generous donation of a kidney to a total stranger,” said Nannette Carbone, the DEO of the National Kindey Foundation of Central NY. “She and I have been talking about that so she thought it’d be fun to commemorate that and raise some awareness about organ donation.”
In all, about $300 was raised.
