WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Governor Andrew Cuomo wants to consolidate primary elections.
The Democrat wants to have presidential, congressional and state primary elections all on one day, April 28, 2020.
He says it would make it easier for people voting and save tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.
Jefferson County Democratic Elections Commissioner Babette Hall says having the primaries all on one day would benefit county elections.
"Budget-wise it would help us. It would cut down on some of the costs that we would have normally with 2 primaries," she said.
Cuomo also said he wants to have New York's presidential primary earlier in the year so the state would be more relevant in national campaigns.
But in a statement, his communications director said that is not under consideration as it is not politically feasible at this point.
