WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The I.H.C. Girls' Soccer Team beat Canajoharie Sunday 2-1 in the Hall of Fame Tournament. Jenna Hanno and Rosie Goans scoring the goals in the win.
Coach Kurt Robbins' team is looking for a return trip to the sectional final this year. The 2019 season started unconventionally for the I.H.C. Girls' Soccer Team. Instead of hitting the field for practice, the Lady Cavaliers hit the road for a camping trip.
"Yeah, we've been going to team camp for quite a few years, a long time, as long as I can remember. And we go up to Aldersgate in Braningham which is a religious retreat and it's a lot of fun. It's not just soccer, the girls get to become really good friends. They do all kinds of team building stuff and eat together and sleep together and it's fantastic. I really enjoy those 4 days, a lot of fun," said Coach Robbins.
I.H.C. is coming off a very successful 2018 season that saw the Lady Cavaliers post a 15-4 overall record and 8-2 in the Frontier League. The team made it all the way to the Section 3 Class C final, where they lost to Little Falls.
This year's team is looking to make another trip to the title game.
“I think we’re younger, definitely we have some stuff to work on. We’ve only had 6 days to practice and prepare, but I think people underestimated us and it’s gonna be a good season,” said McKenna Cooney.
“We always are pretty young though so I’m not too worried about that. And with the younger players, they have a lot more energy than like us older players. So that should help us out in games and practices as well,” said Kate O’Neil.
