Thousand Islands International Piano Competition Winners 2019

Winners in the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition were announced Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the conclusion of the three day event. The competition was in Cape Vincent NY on the grounds of the historic Maple Grove Estate.

In the Junior division (under age 19) 1st place winner ($2500) is Kevin Chen of Gatineau, Quebec Canada, 2nd place winner ($1500) is Carrie Chen from Emerson New Jersey and 3rd place winner ($750) is Stephanie Ding Draughon of Ashburn Virginia. The audience choice award was a tie - presented to both Kevin Chen and Carrie Chen.

In the Senior division (high school graduate - age 25), the $3000 1st place prize went to Aaron Kurz of Dallas Texas. The 2nd place prize ($1500) went to Yong Murray of Groton Massachusetts. The 3rd place winner ($750) is Gregory Hartmann of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Honorable Mention Awards ($450) were presented to Katherine Benson of Jonesborough Tennessee and Anastasia Kulikova of Toronto Canada. The audience choice award winner was Katherine Benson.

Once again, the community of Cape Vincent extended a warm welcome to all of the competitors and their families. Committee member express many thanks for all the generous monetary donations from individuals, local civic groups and businesses! Thanks also go out to families who hosted the contestants and all the volunteers who worked during the three day event. Without this support the Cape Vincent Arts Council alone could not provide this program for young people.
