MASSENA, N.Y. (WWNY) - St. John’s Episcopal Church in Massena celebrated a milestone anniversary Sunday - 150 years of service and worship.
Church members and guests dug into the church’s history during a tour Sunday afternoon.
“I hope they take away that we have been here a long time. Things really haven’t changed. People still come, seeking the Lord. And it continues," said Miriam Morrow, St. John’s anniversary committee chairperson.
The church also hosts a free health clinic and other social services - and church members and clergy will tell you it’s all about holding true to the church’s values.
“We are family. That we don’t always agree with everything that each other says and does, but we love each other. Just as Jesus loved us, we love each other,” said Rev. Sonya Boyce, St. John’s Deacon Vicar.
The Bishop of Albany will ordain Boyce in November and install her as priest for St. John’s. He will also rededicate the church.
