RUTLAND, N.Y. (WWNY) - Quick action by farm workers and firefighters saved a barn on a town of Rutland farm Tuesday morning.

Several fire departments were called to the Milk Street Dairy on County Route 161 around 7:30 a.m. after an employee noticed a skid-steer loader on fire inside a calf barn.

Workers quickly pulled the machine out of the barn using another skid-steer and firefighters extinguished the flames when they arrived.

Rutland Fire Chief Will Kalin says the situation could have been much worse.

"The employees here are well versed in what to do in an emergency such as this," he said. "It's a really great credit to the management of the farm."

The barn had minor damage and no animals or employees were hurt.

The skid-steer appears to be a total loss. No cause has been determined
