WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The North Country Sports Hall of Fame will hold its third induction class the evening of October 12 at the Italian-American Civic Association in Watertown.
Another stellar class will be honored that night.
Ed Murphy is chairman of the hall of fame committee and founder of the North Country Hall of Fame.
He says he's excited about the incoming class.
"We have a little bit smaller class, but no less elite," he said. "We've got five going in and as you say, kind of runs the gamut of different sports and different eras.
Murphy says all five are still living. "Jim Burr, the basketball official, Bob McCreadie the race car driver, Jim Deshaies now a broadcaster and retired baseball player. We've got Ryan Powell who's in his 40s and Mitch Clark who's about the same age -- a balance as to how many different eras we have."
Teams are being honored as well.
"Sandy Creek softball teams of 1997 and 2004 are two teams of honor that we are selecting," Murphy said. "They will join our class of five on October the 12th."
