TOWN Of LERAY, N.Y. (WWNY) - Power was restored to most National Grid customers along a stretch of Route 11 near Fort Drum Thursday afternoon, after being out for a little more than two hours.

National Grid said that at its peak about 2,100 customers lost power, starting at 1 PM. 1,500 were restored by 1:30 PM. In a statement the company said the outage was caused by “equipment failure on an underground electricity network.”

About 700 customers were without power between 1 PM and 3:15 PM, but National Grid reported at mid-afternoon that all but 50 customers had the lights back on.

National’s Grid’s outage map showed the outage extending from the intersection of routes 11 and 342 to just past the Route 781 overpass leading to Fort Drum.

That stretch of Route 11 is primarily businesses. Traffic lights were also without power.

Samaritan Medical Center said its LeRay Urgent Care and Family Health Center was closed by the outage, but would reopen at 4 PM.
