CAPE VINCENT, N.Y. (WWNY) - It’s another football Friday night around the north country with plenty of gridiron action. We focus in on the lone Section 3 game involving two north country teams. Cape Vincent was the site as Thousand Islands entertained Sandy Creek.
The Thousand Islands cheerleading team had plenty to cheer about Friday night as the Vikings performed well.
Connor Mackay ran offense for the Vikings, getting the first down. The Vikings defense played well, Dylan Aznoe almost with a pick six. Mackay had another long gain for the Vikings.
In the second quarter, Nick Mason took the ball up the middle for a 16 yard gain.
Nick Gokey sacked the quarterback for a big loss back to the five: Thousand Islands beat Sandy Creek 18-7.
Besides the Thousand Islands-Sandy Creek matchup, there was plenty of other football action taking place involving north country schools.
In Section 3 football from Philadelphia, the Indian River Warriors hosted C.B.A.
This game was all Warriors, in the 1st quarter, Robert Alexander hits Rowan Marsell, who makes a great catch for the touchdown. Score: 8-0 Warriors.
Still in the 1st, Guillermo Rosario Acosta found an opening outside and broke free for a 37 yard touchdown:14-0 Indian River. Late in the 1st, the Warriors found the endzone again. This time it was Anthony Barker finding a hole up the middle and taking it to the house - a 39 yard touchdown run. Score: 22-0 Warriors. Indian River went on to beat C.B.A. 59-20.
In Section 3 football from Carthage, the Comets entertained Jamesville Dewitt. The Comets wasted little time getting on the board as Nick Cavallier goes in from 22 yards out putting Carthage on top 7-0.
Still in the 1st, it was Fombo Azah plowing into the end zone from 7 yards out. The Comets increased their lead to 14-0. The Comets special teams comes up with the big play when Thomas Albright blocks the punt and recovers in the end zone for the touchdown. Score: 21-0 Comets.
In the 2nd quarter, the score 28-0 Comets when Angel Castillo takes it in from 9 yards out. Score: 35-0 Carthage. The Comets beat Jamesville Dewitt 42-14.
In Section 10 football, Watertown was at Potsdam. Will Varney took it in 15 yards for the touchdown. Score: 26-16 Potsdam.
Then it was Varney finding a hole and going 83 yards for the touchdown as Potsdam capitalized on 4 Cyclone turnovers in the 2nd half and beat Watertown 44-16.
In college football, St. Lawrence University hosted SUNY Morrisville. Bill Flatow hit Jermaine Cooper for a 9 yard touchdown. Score: 7-0 Mustangs.
William Manory hit a 22 yard field goal to make it 7-3. It was Manory from 27 as St. Lawrence beat SUNY Morrisville 32-22.
