Driver charged with DWI in fatal August crash in Ogdensburg
OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - The driver of one of the vehicles involved in a crash in August that killed one sister and seriously injured another was charged with DWI Tuesday morning.
Ogdensburg city police say 22 year old Jacob Ward was drunk when the pickup truck he was driving on Route 37 in Ogdensburg collided with a sedan that was driven by 47 year old Julie Wright.
Wright, who police say was also intoxicated, was killed. She was found to be at fault in the crash. Wright’s sister, 48 year old Nicole Wright, was a passenger in Ward’s vehicle.
All three were from Lisbon. The sisters lived in the same apartment building on County Route 28.
Nicole Wright was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and Ward was treated at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Both were in critical condition immediately following the crash.
Ward was charged Tuesday with driving while intoxicated and aggravated driving while intoxicated.
The vehicles collided near the approach road to the Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge shortly after 2:30 a.m. on August 11.
