WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - People at Jefferson Community College put together 250 kits Tuesday to support survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

It's part of SUNY's "Got Your Back" program. The comfort kits have personal care items such as shampoo and toothbrushes as well as a message of support from the person who assembled it.

The kits will go to local agencies such as hospitals, police stations, and domestic violence shelters.

“The people who are getting these bags, it’s the worst day of their lives,” staff associate Phil Potter said, “so they’re coming to the hospital or domestic violence shelter on their worst days so these bags are just some form of comfort for them.”

"Got Your Back" does this on other SUNY campuses and at events around the state.

It is on track to reach 100,000 kits this year.
