HOUNSFIELD, N.Y. (WWNY) - Firefighters were dispatched to a fire at an abandoned motel in Hounsfield Wednesday night.

The call came in around 10:30 pm to the old Harbor Motel on State Route 3.

State police joined Sackets Harbor and town of Watertown fire departments searching rooms and the outside of the structure.

Sackets Harbor Fire Captain Stephen Sullivan says there was damage to the inside of one of the units and also minor siding damage.

"When we got here there was a small fire, mostly seen from the outside of the structure," he said. "We did end up going inside the building, knocking down the rest of it, mopping it up in there."

It's not clear what caused the fire.

“We’ve got fire investigators, state police on scene and they’re looking at this to try and figure out what the actual cause is,” Sullivan said.
