ADAMS, N.Y. (WWNY) - Three Jefferson County cemeteries were dedicated Saturday as sites where Revolutionary War soldiers are buried.

Adams State Road Cemetery in Adams Center was one out of three sites given a historical roadside marker.

The sign lets visitors and drivers know Revolutionary War Soldiers are buried there.

Parks Honeywell oversees the Thousand Islands chapter of the Sons of the Revolutionary War.

He applied for the distinction.

Honeywell said the sign shows how Jefferson County played a part in the country’s history.

“We want the community and the tourists who come here and are drawn to this part of the country, to realize this is a place where soldiers that made our great country now lie," he said.

Union Cemetery and Adams Rural Cemetery were also honored Saturday.

The William G Pomeroy Foundation in Syracuse funded the historical roadside markers.
