Third person identified in crash that killed two NNY’ers

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - State police have identified the third person killed in a collision Saturday which also killed two north country men.

All three men were killed in a head-on collision between a U-Haul van and a pickup truck in Orleans County, west of Rochester.

State police say the U-Haul van was on State Highway 63 in the town of Shelby at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday when it crossed the center line and struck the oncoming pickup. Both vehicles then caught on fire.

Sunday, the driver of the pick-up was identified as Gordon Tooley, 73, of Holley, NY, in Orleans County.

State police say 80-year-old Charles Stevens, of Black River, and his U-Haul van passenger, 57-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, of Carthage, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said their investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
