CANTON, N.Y. (WWNY) - A father, who lost his son in a Massena house fire, is going to jail.
Michael Riley was sentenced Monday in St. Lawrence County Court.
The 32 year old was sentenced to spend weekends in jail for one year.
In August, Riley, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor.
He was indicted in April on a criminal contempt charge for, according to court documents, allowing someone to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs in his child’s presence.
Riley’s 5 year old son, Aiden Riley, died in a house fire in February 2017 in Massena. The boy was in bed upstairs at his grandmother’s house when the fire broke out.
Police said the boy’s door was locked from the outside. They said there’s no evidence the child tried to get out of the room.
The grandmother, Shari Caza, pleaded guilty in July to criminally negligent homicide.
