FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWNY) - Some 6,000 soldiers in the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum are packing up and heading out.
They're going to Fort Polk, Louisiana for a two-week training.
First though, soldiers are loading more than 1,000 vehicles on a train that's also bound for Fort Polk.
This training tests the soldiers' ability to deploy anywhere, any time.
"It kind of solidifies the training progression and puts that final cap on ah, look how I'm a member of a larger team and that's how we come together to fight and win," said Major Scott Dawe, rail node officer in command.
The train will leave Thursday night. The soldiers fly out starting this weekend.
