JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. (WWNY) - There have been 3 fires in 2 weeks - all at abandoned buildings.

Jefferson County's top fire official says he's confident all 3 are not related.

The latest fire was Wednesday night in the town of Theresa. Justin Ernst recently bought the abandoned home on Creek Road. He told us he was at the property getting his lawnmower around 7 p.m. when he saw smoke and called for help.

The other fires at abandoned properties include one in the town of Hounsfield at the old Harbor Motel on Route 3.

Then there was another one on September 23 at the corner of Orleans Cemetery Road and Whiskey Street in the town of Orleans that destroyed an abandoned house.

While each fire has its own investigation, Jefferson County’s director of fire and emergency management says he’s very confident the 3 recent fires are not related.
