CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Carthage Veterans of Foreign Wars post is hoping to attract more members by showing how family-friendly the post is.
Saturday, VFW Post 7227 held its first ‘Family Freedom Festival,' with a variety of activities for children like making cards for soldiers, doing Halloween crafts and playing in a bouncy house.
As much fun as it was for the children, the VFW hopes parents had a fun time seeing how active the organization is in the community, and that they’ll consider joining.
“We have a lot of older members but we’re always looking for younger members because someone’s gotta take this on,” said Joseph Martel, post commander.
“The VFW is a national organization, we do a lot of good advocating for our veterans.”
The VFW hopes to make this an annual event.
