WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Local Girl Scouts are helping people reduce, reuse and recycle by making bags out of t-shirts.
They decided that they want to teach the community how to make reusable bags people can use for shopping out of unused t-shirts.
All you need to do is cut each arm of the shirt off, make a bigger opening, and tie knots at the end to hold the fabric together.
Starting March 1, single-use plastic shopping bags will be banned in New York state, which is something the scouts are looking forward to.
"This is something that they were very passionate about," troop leader Dawn Bost-Brown said, "and they wanted to come and show a group of people, 'hey this is something that's going to solve a problem that you might have coming up next year -- it's so simple. We can show you how to do it and you can show others.'"
One feature of these bags the girls say is helpful is that they are washable.
