Sunday Sports: Soccer & football playoff pairings announced

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The seedings and pairings for the boys’ Section 3 soccer playoffs were released Sunday, with two Frontier League teams earning top seeds. In Class A, the 13-2-1 Watertown Cyclones are the 4th seed. They host 5th seed Central Square Thursday at 6 PM. Also in Class A, the Carthage Comets are the 10th seed and they travel to 7th seed Fulton for a 1st round game on Wednseday at a time to be announced.

In Class B, the 14-1-1 General Brown Lions are the top seed and host 16th seed Holland Patent on Wednesday at 6:30 PM. The 8-7-1 South Jeff Spartans are the 9th seed. They travel to 8th seed Chittenango for a 7 PM game on Wednesday. Lowville is the 10th seed. The Red Raiders travel to 5th seed Cazenovia for a 6:30 PM game on Wednesday. The South Lewis Falcons earned a 1st round bye and the top seed in Class C with a 14-2 record. Thousand Islands is the 7th seed and hosts 10th seed Herkimer Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Beaver River is the 11th seed. They travel to 6th seed Waterville Wednesday at 6 PM.

In Class D, Belleville Henderson is the 2nd seed at 16-0. They host Mater Dei Academy Wednesday at 3 PM. Lyme is the 7th seed and will host 10th seed Remsen at 3 PM Wednesday. LaFargeville is the 14th seed. They travel to 3rd seed Poland for a 3 PM game on Wednesday.

On the girls’ side in Class A, the Watertown Lady Cyclones are the 5th seed. They travel to 4th seed Cortland Thursday. The Indian River Lady Warriors are the 9th seed. They travel to 8th seed C.B.A. on Tuesday.

In Class B, the Lowville Lady Red Raiders are the 7th seed. They play host to V.V.S. on Monday. The South Jeff Lady Spartans are the 9th seed and travel to 8th seed Cazenovia on Wednesday. And the General Brown Lady Lions are the 14th seed. They travel to 3rd seed Westhill on Monday.

In Class C, the I.H.C. Lady Cavaliers are the 8th seed. They host 9th seed Pulaski Tuesday at 6 PM. The Beaver River Lady Beavers are the 10th seed. They travel to 7th seed Tully Monday. And the Thousand Islands Lady Vikings are the 14th seed. They travel to Onondaga for a 1st round game Tuesday at 6 PM.

In Class D, Copenhagen is the 3rd seed. They host 14th seed Madison Tuesday at 3 PM. Lyme is the 7th seed and host 10th seed Oriskany Tuesday at 3 PM. LaFargeville is the 11th seed. They travel to 6th seed Remsen Tuesday at 3 PM. And Sackets Harbor is the 13th seed. They travel to 4th seed McGraw Tuesday at 3 PM.

The Section 3 football playoff seedings and pairings were unveiled Sunday as well.

In Class B, the 5-2 South Jeff Spartans hit the road for a 1st round contest as they travel to New Hartford to meet the 6-1 Spartans in the quarterfinals on Friday night at 6 PM.

In Class C, the Lowville Red Raiders earned the 2nd seed. Lowville will host 7th seed Skaneateles on Friday night at 7 PM. Also in Class C, the General Brown Lions ride a 4 game win streak into the post season and earned the 6th seed. They travel to Canastota to meet the 3rd seed Friday night at 7 PM.

In Class D, the Beaver River Beavers are the 2nd seed. They open sectional play hosting 7th seed Thousand Islands Saturday at 2 PM in Beaver Falls. And the Sandy Creek Comets are the 8th seed. They travel to top seed Dolgeville for a Saturday contest at 1:30 PM.

Turning to women's hockey, the St. Lawrence University women hosted Holy Cross. In the 1st period, Kayla Vespa dented the back of the net, putting St. Lawrence on top 1-0.

In the 2nd period, it was Laura Cote with the lamp lighter. St. lawrence upped it's lead to 2-0. Then it was Maggie McLaughlin tickling twine, giving the Lady Saints a 3-0 advantage.

In the 3rd period, the score was 3-1 St. Lawrence when Vespa scored her 2nd goal of the game. Final score: 4-1 St. Lawrence.
