WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties had the state’s highest rate of unemployment outside New York City last month.
That’s according to the state Labor Department, which released its September jobless numbers Tuesday.
The unemployment rate in both Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties was 4.7 percent, up less than a percent from the year before.
Only the Bronx had a higher rate of people out of work.
Lewis County’s unemployment rate was also up from the previous year from 3.8 percent to 4.1 percent.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped from 4 percent to 3.9 percent.
