Red Raiders hitting their stride heading into postseason

Tuesday morning sports wrap

LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Section 3 soccer playoffs get underway this week and the Lowville Red Raiders hope to make it a long run in the postseason.

The Red Raiders travel to Cazenovia for their first-round game on Wednesday.

Despite a 6-9-1 mark, players and coach feel you haven't seen the best of the team yet.

"I think we are deffinitely better than what we've been showing," player Cooper Myers said, "and when we get to sectionals, we will surprise a lot of people who think we are weaker -- and I think we have a pretty good chance of making a good run."

"We haven't shown our best yet, but, you know, late season, getting towards the end here I think we can turn it around, make a run in sectionals, Garrett Jones said. "We are going to surprise some teams, I think."

"We have 13 seniors and it's been a process, changing a little bit of our system of play throughout the year and looking to possess the ball throughout the game," coach Nick Matuszczak said. "We've moved people into different positions -- I think we're sort of finally finding our stride and look to really make a good run into sectionals."
