CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - It was another football Friday night, this time Sectional Play has begun.
In Section 3 Class A was a regular season finale for the Carthage Comets as they hosted Auburn. The Comets scored on their first possession when Fombo Azah found a hole up the middle and went in from 15 yards out. Score: 7-0 Carthage. On their next series, it was Azah again. This time Azah spins away from a couple of would be tacklers and takes it 96 yards down the sideline for the score. 14-0 Comets.
Late in the 1st, the Comets added to their lead as Azah goes in from 35 yards out.Score: 21-0 Carthage. The Comets beat Auburn 49-17.
In the Section 3 Class B playoffs, South Jeff was at New Hartford. Tyler Potocki went in on the keeper. Score: 7-0 New Hartford.
In the 2nd quarter, Anthony Rasmussen answered for South Jeff, the Spartans are now down by 1. Vinny Fanelli found the endzone from 15 yards out as New Hartford beat South Jeff 35-12.
In the Section 3 Class C playoffs from Lowville, the Red Raiders hosted Skaneateles. In the 1st quarter, the score was 7-0 Lowville when James Musso hit Colin Cox for the touchdown to put Lowville on top 7-6.
Lowville answered as Issac Lyndaker took it in from 2 yards out. Score: 15-6 Red Raiders. Still in the 1st, Chad Bach called his own number and takes it in from 6 yards out. Score: 21-6 Lowville.
In the 2nd quarter, it was Bach again. This time from 2 yards out. Lowville beat Skaneateles 58-26.
Also in the Section 3 Class C playoffs: General Brown at Canastota. In the 2nd quarter the score was 14-6 Canastota when Nick Weber takes it in on the keeper to put Canastota on top 21-6.
Weber does it again, this time taking it 51 yards for the touchdown. Canastota beat General Brown 42-18.
Potsdam hosted Malone for the Section 10 Class B title. Will Varney put Potsdam up 6-0. Then Zach Kirka hit Bobby Voss for an 8 yard touchdown. Score: 14-0 Potsdam. Then it was Kirka to Voss from 25 yards out: 22-0 Sandstoners. Logan McCarger goes in from 10 yards out as Potsdam beat Malone 39-6.
In the Section 10 Class C Semifinals, O.F.A. hosted St. Lawrence Central. MeSean Johnson puts O.F.A. up 12-0. Then it was Johnson again, this time taking the punt and rambling 68 yards to paydirt to put the Blue Devils on top 22-0.
Jackson Jones pitched to Johnson who tosses a 30 yard touchdown pass to Stephen Morley.The O.F.A. Blue Devils down the Larries 46-7.
In the Section 3 Class D boys' soccer playoffs from Belleville, the Panthers hosted Lyme. In the 1st half, the Panthers take the lead on Kyle Moyer's tally. Score: 1-0 Belleville Henderson.
Lyme tied it up when Trevor Weston tickled twine. The game tied at 1.
Still in the 1st half, Braden Richmond connects to put the Panthers back on top 2-1 and Lyme ties things up once again when Graham Rowland splits the pipes off the throw in.
This game would be decided on penatlty kicks. Rowland’s penalty kick puts Lyme in front 3-0.
The Panthers look to stay alive, but Kyle Gaumes makes the diving stop and Lyme beats Belleville Henderson to advance to the Class D semifinals.
Copenhagen met Remsen in girls' Class D play. Brooke Smykla scored as her corner kick went off the goalkeeper and into the net. Smykla would have 2 goals on the day, Copenhagen leads 1-0.
Meanwhile, Oliva Buckley records the shutout. Final score: Copenhagen 2, Remsen nothing.
On the ice, the Watertown Wolves opened their regular season as they hosted Mentor. In the 1st period, Kyle Powell dents the back of the net putting the Wolves on top 1-0.
Mentor answered as Declan Conway lites the lamp, tying the game at 1. Mentor beats the Wolves 3-1.
