Sunday Sports: Semifinal schedule posted for Section 3 football teams

DEXTER, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Section 3 football semifinal schedule is set for this week.

In Class A, the Carthage Comets are the top seed and will meet 4th seed Whitesboro on Friday night at 5 PM at General Brown High School in Dexter.

In the other Class A semifinal, the 2nd seeded Indian River Warriors square off against 4th seed Auburn on Friday night at 8 PM. That game will also be played at General Brown.

In Class C, the Lowville Red Raiders will travel to Cicero North Syracuse for a semifinal contest against Canastota. That game is set to kick off at 2 PM.

And in Class D, the 2nd seed Beaver River Beavers will meet Waterville in the semifinals on Friday night. That game will take place in Lowville with kickoff set for 7 PM.

The Women’s Midstate Conference Volleyball Championship took place at Jefferson Community College Sunday with the top seeded Lady Cannoneers hosting Broome Community College for the title.

J.C.C. would beat Broome 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13.

Maggie Vasquez, who was named the M.S.A.C. Player of the Year, had 19 kills and 8 blocks to lead the way. Jenna Wilson was named the tournament M.V.P.

The Lady Cannoneers improved to 26-5 overall and now head to regionals where they will be the 3rd seed.
