OGDENSBURG, N.Y. (WWNY) - There were some tense moments in Ogdensburg Tuesday afternoon following a report that a man had a gun inside a city store.

City police said they received a call saying a man with a gun was inside the UPS store in Gateway Plaza.

Detective Sergeant Mark Kearns of the Ogdensburg Police Department told 7 News the report turned out to be a hoax.

However, police initially took the report seriously, shut down the plaza parking lot, and told nearby stores to shut their doors.

Customs and Border Protection officers stopped northbound vehicles as they approached the bridge to Canada.

State police also helped at the scene.

Kearns said police are now trying to find out who made the call. That person could face a felony charge in connection with the hoax, he said.
