STOCKHOLM, N.Y. (WWNY) - State police have identified the victim of a fatal accident Wednesday afternoon in the town of Stockholm.

Troopers say 28 year old Mose Schlabach of Nicholville was a passenger in a van that was struck by a tractor-trailer on Route 11 around 3:30 p.m.

Police say 65 year old Jerome Wilber, also of Nicholville, didn’t see the tractor-trailer and pulled the van into its path from County Route 49. The van was struck on its passenger side.

Crews used the jaws of life to free Schlabach from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood authorized removal of his body to Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Wilber was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of abdominal pain.

The driver of the truck, 31 year old Andrei Zhuk of Brooklyn, N.Y., was not injured.

Part of the highway was closed well into the evening.
