Friday Sports: Carthage, Indian River compete in semifinal games

DEXTER, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Section 3 football doubleheader was at General Brown Friday night featuring both Carthage and Indian River.

The first game of the doubleheader pitted the Carthage Comets against Whitesboro.

In the 1st quarter, Jalen Jones went in from a yard out. Score: 6-0 Comets.

In the 2nd quarter, Fombo Azah scored one of his 3 touchdowns on the night. He ran for 210 yards. Score: 13-0 Carthage.

Then it was Nick Cavallier on the keeper from a yard out. Score: 21-0 Carthage. But Whitesboro showed a little fight before halftime as Nick Sardina went 24 yards for the touchdown. Score: 21-7 Carthage at the half.

In the 3rd quarter, the Warriors pull to within 7. Nick Sardina hit Zach Britt on the slant and went 47 yards for the touchdown to put Whitesboro within 7.

Carthage answered when Cavallier went in for his 2nd touchdown of the game: 27-14 Comets. Cavallier seals it later in the 3rd on a spectacular 70 yard touchdown run, his 3rd touchdown of the night. The Comets roll to the Class A final with a 48-28 win.

The late game at General Brown was the other Class A semifinal match as the 2nd seeded Indian River Warriors met 3rd seed Auburn.

Auburn got on the board on their 1st possession as Troy Churney hit Shaheed Beal with the swing pass and he goes 34 yards for the touchdown. Score: 7-0 Auburn.

Indian River striked back as Gabe Lynch plowed his way into the endzone from 2 yards out. Indian River goes on top 8-7.

In the 2nd quarter, the Warrriors added to their lead as Lynch scored his 2nd touchdown of the night, this one from 6 yards out. Score: 14-0 Warriors. Auburn would score 35 unanswered points and stunned Indian River 61-59 in double overtime

In men's college hockey, St .Lawrence University was at Clarkson. In the 1st period, Harolds Eagle scores on the rebound. Score: 1-0 Clarkson after the 1st period.

In the 2nd period, Grant Cooper scored a short handed goal to put the Golden Knights up by 2.

The Saints cut the lead in half when Andrew McIntyre is credited with the tally. Score: 2-1 Clarkson. Clarkson goes on to edge St. Lawrence 4-3.
