LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - It was an 8-man Section 3 football semifinal in Lowville Monday night with a trip to the Carrier Dome on the line.
But the Falcons were grounded by West Canada Valley.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday night and then again on Saturday, but was postponed because of flooding in the West Canada Valley area.
Before the game, the South Lewis team showed solidarity with West Canada Valley by reaching out and praying with the visitors. Money was raised during the game for West Canada Valley and the flooding issues the school has suffered.
West Canada Valley got on the board first. Connor Lynch passed to Nate Rath who took it in for the touchdown, putting West Canada Valley on top 6-0.
It was Rath again with the score, this time running it in from 6 yards out and expanding the West Canada Valley lead to 12-0.
It was Rath once again, this time on a long jaunt to pay dirt. West Canada Valley added the 2-point conversion for a score of 20-0.
South Lewis got on the board after Cody Spann made a 42-yard pass play to Ian Anderson, cutting the West Canada Valley lead to 20-6.
With the score 26-6 West Canada Valley, it was Spann to Anderson again for South Lewis, putting the score at 26-12.
But it was too much Rath for the night. He ran a South Lewis kick back for 6 points.
The final score: West Canada Valley 76, South Lewis 42.
