Jeff Smith wins Watertown mayor’s race

WWNY Live interviews with mayoral candidates

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - 7 News is calling the race for Watertown mayor. Jeff Smith is the unofficial winner.

With all precincts reporting, Smith received 1,653 votes to Allison Crossman’s 1,325 votes and Cody Horbacz’s 1,271.

Watch interviews with all three candidates above.

The ballots will be impounded, meaning they will be secured by law enforcement.

This election is unusual in that three people, rather than two, were on the ballot for Watertown mayor.

It happened because candidates Cody Horbacz and Allison Crossman tied for second place in the primary election.

The city’s election law wasn’t clear on what to do in the event of a tie.

A lawsuit was filed to get all three names on the ballot. Judge James McClusky ended the stalemate and certified candidates Horbacz, Crossman, and Smith.
