WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The military students of Wiley Intermediate School got a jump start on observing Veterans Day.
At the school cafeteria Thursday, all of the kids who have a military family member gathered to watch a flag ceremony, recite the Pledge of Allegiance and listen to soldiers play songs that represent different branches of the military.
Some of their military loved ones came in to join them.
"It's really cool, especially for Watertown schools, because we have a lot of military students so it is nice to be able to celebrate them but it's also nice to be able to celebrate our military because they are so close to us and we actually have them in our community so it's nice to be able to let them know that we care as well," said Jade Deitz, Wiley PTO president.
Some kids gave speeches or recited poems about Veterans Day.
After the ceremony, students and their military loved ones had cake.
