LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Lowville village police have identified the man killed In Friday’s fire as Thomas C. Young of Lowville.
Volunteers from a number of fire departments were called to an apartment at 5413 Hemlock Drive at around 3:15 p.m. Friday.
Lowville police chief Randy Roggie said Young died in the fire, along with a dog. The call came into dispatch as a Lifenet alert. The first police officer on scene found heavy smoke coming from underneath the door.
A quick response by Lowville firefighters and mutual aid from other departments kept the fire contained to one apartment, according to a statement from Lewis County emergency dispatch. Martinsburg, Castorland and New Bremen fire departments all answered the call for mutual aid.
Roggie says State and County investigators are looking into a cause.
