Friday Sports: Carthage dominates at the Carrier Dome

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WWNY) - Plenty on the local sports menu Friday night including the Section 3 Class A football final at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse as Carthage took on Auburn for the title under the big top.

The comets get on the board just 11 seconds into the game when Josh Demko takes an onside kick and takes it back 50 yards for the touchdown. Carthage goes on top 6-0.

Later in the first quarter, Elijah Whitfield came up with the interception for the Comets, this set things up for Carthage at the 20 yard line.

On the next play, Nick Cavalier throws a strike to Thomas Albright from 20 yards out, putting Carthage on top 13-0.

Still in the first quarter, Fombo Azah reaches out for the touchdown: 20-0 Comets.

In the second quarter, it was Fombo Azah once again. This time he goes 84 yards as he sprints to the endzone for 6 points. Colin Farrell adds an extra point: 27-0 Carthage on top.

Carthage goes on to win 55 to 7.

Turning to the poolside, the Section 3 Class B Girls’ Swim Championships took place Friday. C.B.A. would take the win, earning 402 points to place 1st overall. Jamesville-Dewitt took home 2nd place with 381, Mexico 3rd with 310, and Watertown took 4th with 282 points.

Watertown will be sending swimmers to the Sectional meet. Sarah Kilburn earned slots in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle with times of 24.42 and 53.60 consecutively.

The Cyclones will also send a 200 yard freestyle relay team made up of Kilburn, McKenzie Way, Jasmine Ferguson, and Emily Alvarado who swam the event in 1.41.10.
