Sunday Sports: Clarkson women’s volleyball advances to Elite 8

POTSDAM, N.Y. (WWNY) - On the volleyball court, the Clarkson Lady Golden Knights advanced to the NCAA Division 3 Elite 8 Sunday afternoon, beating Ithaca 3-2 in the Potsdam Regional Final.

The scores: Clarkson beat Ithaca 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, and lost two games:14-25 and 16-14.

Rachel Rusch had 16 kills and 5 blocks. Kristin Werdine had 4 aces, Isabelle Crow logged 49 assists and Kate Isaksen chipped in with 37 digs for the 28-5 Lady Golden Knights.

In men's college basketball from the McVean Athletic Center at Jefferson Community College, the Cannoneers hosted Fulton Montgomery.

In the first half, South Lewis product Josh Newman spots up and hits the 3 from the corner putting the Cannoneers up 14-9. Then it was Newman with a strong baseline move to put J.C.C. on top by 7.

Off the turnover, Kenyen Epps lays in 2: Cannoneers in front 19-14.

It was Jalen Stewart with a miss, but Isiah Murphy is there for the tipin: 21-14 J.C.C. Murphy goes hard to the tin for 2 and he's fouled. 23-14 Cannoneers.

The J.C.C. men go on to win 91-78.

In the early game, the J.C.C. women were in search of their 2nd win of the season against Fulton Montgomery. In the first quarter, Chelsea Raven finished a break with a layin: J.C.C. up by 2.

Then it was Ashlyn Eyles with a dish to Raven for the bucket to put J.C.C. on top by 4. Lowville product Bailey Zicari lays in 2 off the turnover: Lady Cannoneers up 6.

Eyles stops and pops, ripping yarn. It is now a 5 point lead for J.C.C. It was Eyles again, this time with the floater in the paint. The J.C.C. women take the win 53-51.
