21 to buy tobacco? Not on Fort Drum.

FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWNY) - Even though New York recently increased the age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21 years of age, the law doesn’t apply on Fort Drum.

Officials with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service say their stores on post follow federal law, which allows individuals 18 years and older to buy tobacco products.

The exchange will continue to follow that policy unless the Department of Defense decides to change it, officials added.

A spokesperson with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service said the Department of Defense encourages and promotes tobacco-free living.
