Carthage football: It takes a team to coach a team

Carthage Comets

CARTHAGE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Carthage Comets are one of two north country football teams looking for state titles on Friday.

A first-year head coach has led the Comets to the pinnacle of state Class A -- with a little help from his friends.

The Comets have certainly exceeded expectations under new head coach Jason Coffman, although he knew he had the talent to have a successful season.

"We knew we were talented, we knew we had 25 seniors, we knew that there were certain things that we were going to be able to do very well," he said. "To say that you thought you were going to get to the state championship, I'm not that arrogant."

There's more from the coach in the video.

But it takes more than one coach to make a successful team. You can also hear from offensive coordinator Bill Escodera, line and special teams coach Don Dorchester, and assistant coach Patrick Gibbons.
