WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - Dozens of volunteers at Watertown’s Salvation Army spent their Thanksgiving Day serving others.
Volunteers both young and old helped serve turkey, sides, and desserts to hundreds of people. Some volunteers were busy in the Salvation Army’s dining area, while others were out on the road making deliveries.
Major Karen Smullen says that without volunteers like Jaxon Downey and Lucas Brimmer, a meal like this wouldn’t be possible.
Brimmer: “We decided to-”
“Help the people in need. We are waiting on people and getting their food,” said Downey.
“First we ask them if they want water, then we get them their meal. And then we get them like say grapes, oranges, apples, bananas in like a small plate,” said Brimmer.
Smullen says that between meal preparation, serving, and clean up, about 200 people helped out.
