LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - A Lewis County jail inmate was attacked by fellow inmates twice within as many minutes last month.
Sheriff’s deputies say 19 year old Denver Larkins of Lowville allegedly started a fight with 18 year old Chad Calkins, also of Lowville, on October 23.
Deputies say Larkins overpowered Calkins and hit him several times. Then Larkins allegedly forced Calkins into an open jail cell and continued to hit him.
About two minutes later, deputies say, another inmate, 29 year old Joshua Young of Lowville, injured Calkins when he attacked him from behind, hit him in the side of his head, and knocked him to the floor.
Larkins was charged with second-degree harassment and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. He will answer the charges in Lowville village court at a later date.
Young was charged with second-degree assault. He was arraigned in Martinsburg town court and returned to bail without bail.
