FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWNY) - Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 10th Mountain Division will deploy to Afghanistan in 2020.
In all, 3,500 members of the 1st BCT will head out in late winter, according to Fort Drum public affairs.
"The 1st Brigade Warriors are highly trained, disciplined and fit Soldiers ready to win every mission the nation asks of them," said Maj. Gen. Brian Mennes, commander of the 10th Mountain Division, in a news release. "The Warrior Brigade leadership have been working hard to prepare their Soldiers for this deployment. Their hard work and dedication was recently on display when they completed a successful rotation to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, La. I have the utmost confidence that Warrior Brigade Soldier and leaders are ready to accomplish every task in support of their Afghan partners."
The troops will replace the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, as part of a regular rotation of forces to support the United States’ commitment to Operation Freedom Sentinel.
