Free Christmas trees for Fort Drum soldiers

FORT DRUM, N.Y. (WWNY) - On Fort Drum Saturday, 500 Christmas trees were being handed out to soldiers.

They call it Trees for Troops.

Soldiers ranked E5 or lower could pick a Christmas tree free of charge.

FedEx and the Christmas Spirit Foundation donated truckloads of trees. This year’s batch came all the way from Maine.

“You’re just trying to enhance the lives of our soldiers and our families and this is just one of the great things that we do here. And a great relationship that we have with all of our donors [...] and it’s the holidays so why not?” said Jennifer berry, Fort Drum Family and MWR Special Event Coordinator.

Any trees left over will be available Monday for soldiers of all ranks.
