WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - It's a gift to veterans from the family of veterans.

Members of the Sons of the American Legion Squad 61 dropped off lap blankets to veterans at Samaritan Keep Home in Watertown Wednesday.

There were just under 30 blankets - all made by an anonymous local woman. Other years, the donations have been sent to the VA Center in Syracuse.

But, First Vice Commander Randy Demo says this year, they decided to keep the blankets local.

"The local guys, we feel, are just as deserving as anybody in Syracuse or Rochester. We've got guys down here that are just as sick, and they're just as deserving as they are in Syracuse," said Demo.

Squad members say they plan to continue donating to veterans at Samaritan Keep Home in the years to come.
