CHAUMONT, N.Y. (WWNY) - The Lyme boys' basketball team isn't the only hoop squad at the school off to a hot start.
Coach Mark Wilson's girls are looking impressive early this season as they make a run at Copenhagen for the D Division title
Lyme is coming off a successful 2018-19 season that saw the Lady Indians earn a sixth seed in the Section 3 playoffs, beat McGraw in the first round, but lose to Brookfield in the second round.
Wilson returns a nice mix of players with two seniors, four juniors, two sophomores, and three freshmen on the roster.
"I'm pretty happy with the effort that we give," he said. "They come out and work 100 percent, they listen, they wanna learn, and they just give 100 percent all the time."
Lyme opened the season with wins over Sackets Harbor, Schroon Lake, and Sandy Creek before falling to defending Section 3 Class D champ Copenhagen. Then they picked up a big win over a very good Thousand Islands team from the Frontier League’s C Division.
The quick start has the players optimistic about how far this team can go, not only in the Frontier League, but the Section 3 playoffs as well.
"I'm super excited to see how well we're going to do in the rest of our games for this season," junior Olivia Ososkalo said, "because in practice our chemistry together has been a lot better than what the previous years have been."
"So far I'm really impressed," Callie Lafontaine said, "I feel like we've done really good and we've worked really hard in the off-season, which has put us that much further ahead for the start of regular season."
"I like the way we're playing," Molly Timmerman said. "We're putting more in the net than last year and I think that's pretty good."
"We got a pretty good spread everywhere," freshman Natalia Ososkalo said. "We got shooters, we got drivers, we've got rebounders, we've got talls, we got -- our speed is really good and our press is really good."
"It's really exciting," senior Riley Aubertine said. We're going to be a great team -- we have a lot of great players.
Look for Lyme to make a push for a deep run in the Section 3 playoffs this season.
