PORT LEYDEN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The mayor of Port Leyden is defending two Facebook posts she made about the transgender community.

Heather Collins posted two pictures addressing what she calls the “LGBTQ agenda.”

The private posts promote traditional gender roles.

One of them says: “Hey LGBTQ agenda: the rainbow is not yours. Boys/men/sons have testicles and a REAL penis! #newsflash. You’ll never compete with what God made.”

The other says: “Hey LGBTQ agenda: If you get a monthly visitor (menstruation) you’re a GIRL. #TheTruthInLove”

Some people have taken to the review section of Port Leyden’s Facebook page to voice their opinion both supporting and speaking out against Collins.

When asked for comment, Collins said, “The Facebook posts are based on my personal beliefs. They’re not village related. I take a stance on traditional marriage and traditional gender roles. There’s room for people to be who they need to be without questioning everything that’s always been.”
