ITHACA, N.Y. (WWNY) - A former Gouverneur man was shot and killed by Ithaca police Saturday, after he attacked an officer with a “butcher-type” knife, police said.
Killed was Michael DeCastro, 57, of Ithaca and formerly of Gouverneur.
According to WENY TV, DeCastro attacked the officer in the lobby of the police department, using a nine inch knife blade.
The officer then fired at DeCastro, killing him, police said.
Police chief Dennis Nayor described the attack as “completely random.”
