Red Knights optimistic about hoops season outlook

Friday morning sports wrap

LAFARGEVILLE, N.Y. (WWNY) - The LaFargeville boys' basketball team will be hosting its varsity and junior varsity tournament Friday and Saturday.

In the varsity games, LaFargeville faces Belleville Henderson at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The other varsity game features Norwood-Norfolk against Edwards-Knox at 2:30 p.m.

The LaFargeville boys are a team in transition. The Red Knights lost a player to transfer, but return a strong core of talent that should mesh with some up-and-coming talent from JV.

Despite a 1-3 start, LaFargeville is optimistic about the season ahead.

"I'm really optimistic, we've got five seniors this year, we've got a bunch of newcomers, we've got us some JV kids up from last year's team," coach Jay Shimel said. "I really like the core that we've got -- our first five guys a really strong, reall long and ahtletic, so looking for another good year, hopefully.

There's more from the coach in the video, along with comments from players Wyatt Parliament, Jarett Beach, and Andrew Eichorn.
