Friday Sports: Volleyball & basketball tournaments across the north country

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) - There was a volleyball tournament at Watertown High School and girls high school basketball among the games people were playing on Friday.

We begin with volleyball for a great cause at the Pink-Out tournament which features a stellar number of teams that you would usually see in the post-season. All raising money for a great cause. Beaver River met undefeated Cortland in the final. But the big winner is the fight against cancer.

In girls high school basketball at Jefferson Community College, Thousand Islands took on Watertown. The Vikings’ Lauren Rupp had a rebound and the basket. Tatum Overton had one for Watertown with a lane to the bucket. Haylee Alteri nailed a baseline jumper for 2.

Delaney Wiley stops and pops in the paint for the Vikings. But the Cyclones’ Lilly Renzi was down low for the putback. Kennady Amo takes it to the rack for 2. Final score: Thousand Islands 45 Watertown 31.

In the Heuvelton girls basketball tournament, it was Colton-Pierepont vs. Hermon-DeKalb. It was Jaeleigh Jacot to Landree Chamberlain outside, opening scoring for the Colts, 2-0. A breakaway by Chamberlain added two, Colts up by 4.

Then it was Audrianna Tehonica to Hillary Jones for the layup-and-1, trimming the lead to 6-2. Then it was Emery McQuade to Haile Bouchey for a quick bucket. Demons down 10-8.

Brianna Grant passed to Bouchey for a short jump. Colts lead 12-10.

Jordyn Whitton had a breakaway to Tehonica for the layup, but Hermon-DeKalb goes on to defeat Colton-Pierepont 59-46.

It was the Heuvelton girls vs. Lisbon as Kaitlyn Sibley passed to Rayna Cameron for 3, opening scoring for the Bulldogs 3-0. Then it was Cameron to Molly Williams with another trifecta. Heuvelton jumps to an 8-1 lead.

Alexa McKee passes to Olivia McLear with a short jump to put the Knights behind 14-3. Then it was McKee to Brooke Meashaw for 3. Bulldogs lead 16-7. Ericka Snyder gets a three-pointer, Bulldogs by 9. Next, it was Grace Mills to Cameron for a layup, Heuvelton defeats Lisbon 54-36.
