Fire destroys barn, Lewis County volunteers douse flames

TOWN OF AVA, N.Y. (WWNY) - The cause of a barn fire, which was fought by volunteers from Lewis and Oneida counties, is still under investigation.

Flames destroyed a barn last Friday morning on Arab Hill Road in the town of Ava.

Volunteers from West Leyden, Boonville and Westernville were called to the scene. Constableville Fire Department was on stand-by to help.

West Leyden Fire Chief Jeffrey Nellenback told 7 News the owners were in their home when they heard a noise, looked outside, and saw the barn engulfed in flames.

Nellenback said approximately 3,000 bales of hay, 6 calves and 4 goats were lost in the fire.

He said the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
