Highlights & scores: Lady Falcons on the path to improve

Tuesday morning sports wrap

TURIN, N.Y. (WWNY) - The South Lewis girls' basketball team is a work in progress.

The Lady Falcons are currently 1-8 this season. Coach David Martin is working hard to get the Lady Falcons on the same page and to improve.

He's handicapped this season because of no junior varsity team, but he's looking to change that into a positive.

"I took on 15 girls this year, we do not have a JV team -- we decided to grab everybody that would have been on the JV team and combine them with varsity," the coach said.

"I have 15 girls that are all on the same page, relatively inexperienced overall on the varsity level, there's no predetermined expectations from anybody," he said. "They are all willing to work hard together, learn together, play hard together -- that's the good part about it."

"We definitely have done a lot more drills in practice that will definitely help us during games," player Kayla Peterson said, "and they are more helpful and useful."

"I think we should be like a little better that last year, win a few more games," Chloe Hunziker said. "In practice, we do a lot more drills than last year -- there's a lot less just talking."
