PAMELIA, N.Y. (WWNY) - A town of Pamelia man is accused of strangling a woman while her 3 year old child was in her lap.
Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies say 31 year old Edward Perkins III also threatened to kill himself during the domestic argument, went outside with a shotgun, and fired a shot.
They say he also damaged property around the house and prevented the victim from calling for help.
Deputies say they found him later driving on Route 11 with a shotgun in the car.
Deputies also say they removed 24 rifles and shotguns from his home for safe keeping.
Perkins was charged with second-degree strangulation, third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, which deputies say was for an assault rifle he had.
Perkins was arraigned in Orleans town court and released pending a later court appearance.
An order of protection was issued for the victim.
