TOWN OF ANTWERP, N.Y. (WWNY) - No injuries were reported in a house fire in the town of Antwerp Thursday.

Volunteers from multiple departments were called out shortly before 5 p.m. to battle the blaze on Route 11 near County Route 24.

Antwerp Fire Chief James Allen said one person lived in the home, which he described as a total loss.

He said the person who lived there, Stephen Dean, was not home when the blaze broke out.

Allen said the fire originated in the front corner of the house, but officials have yet to pinpoint the cause of the blaze.

At least eight different departments responded to the scene. They were Antwerp, Theresa, Evans Mills, Great Bend, Gouverneur, North Pole, Philadelphia, and Oxbow.

Allen says there are a couple of reasons for such a large response.

“For water, and man power," he said. "I don’t know how many of my guys are here, but there’s not a lot.”
